Venice may become a UNESCO endangered site

UNESCO experts once again recommend that Venice be included in the list of World Heritage Sites in danger of extinction due to the effects of mass tourism and global warming.

The organization believes that not enough measures have been taken to combat the deterioration of the city.

This recommendation will be considered by UNESCO members in September.

Recall that this is not the first such recommendation regarding Venice. So, in 2021, UNESCO experts called for changing the status of the city, but at a meeting of the committee with the participation of representatives of different countries, this initiative was rejected.

In the same year, Italian scientists of the National Environmental Protection System warned that Venice would face serious problems due to rising sea levels and as a result of subsidence of the soil.
