The earthquake occurred near Naples

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred last night in the large volcanic area of the Phlegrean fields, located near Naples (Italy).

According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy (INGV), the epicenter of the seismic event was at a depth of 3 km. On Tuesday evening, tremors of magnitude 2 and 2.2 were registered in this area.

The earthquake was clearly felt by residents of Naples and surrounding settlements, people ran out of their homes into the streets in panic.

There was no information about casualties or damage as a result of the earthquake.

The authorities are conducting an urgent check of the condition of the railway tracks after the earthquake, train traffic is currently suspended. The Naples metro also temporarily stopped working.
