The cub of a big panda was born in the Moscow Zoo

The first big panda cub in the history of Russia was born in the Moscow Zoo. This was told by the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin.

According to him, "this is a unique and very rare event."

Pandas are the national symbol and heritage of China. The Chinese authorities have been making every effort to increase the population of large pandas for many years in a row. Now there are almost 2,600 of them, of which about 1,900 live in the wild.

The Chinese government transfers the animals to other countries — "as a sign of great trust." This tradition is often called "panda diplomacy".

Pandas Zhui and Dingding came to Moscow in 2019, in honor of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. By their arrival, the aviary complex on the territory of the zoo was completely renovated, and the staff trained for several months in the Chinese panda nursery to learn proper care and maintenance.

Now the pandas in the Moscow Zoo have their first cub. "This is a landmark event for Russia and the entire global environmental community," said the Mayor of Moscow.
